Job Description

Become a Ski Instructor and teach kids to ski in Whistler. Begin your winter season in Canada with the 4-week Whistler Blackcomb Ski School University Instructor Course. This has been designed by Whistler Blackcomb to give you all the necessary training to pass the CSIA Level 1 examination in early December, and then secure your job for the rest of the season.

On passing your Level 1 exam, you will be eligible for employment by Whistler Blackcomb. Your job here will be working as a ski instructor with children between the ages of 3-11. Some will be new to skiing and will need to be taught the very basics, while others will have been skiing all their lives. You will have to tailor your lessons to fit the skill level of those in your group, and will be spending your time on either the nursery slopes or the beginner slopes of the mountains, depending on your group’s experience.

Working as a kid’s ski instructor is an exciting position, but also one of responsibility. You will receive two interviews before you head out to Canada to ensure that you are well-suited and prepared for the job. One will be with us over the phone when we receive your application, and the other will take place with the Whistler Kids General Manager on Skype in September, before you head out to Canada.

Your accommodation will be in the Whistler Blackcomb staff housing. These are self-contained flats containing two bedrooms and sleeping up to four people. The flats are self-catered, although you may receive a meal on the days that you are working. During the training course, the cost of your accommodation is included. Once you start working, your rent (about $12 per night) will be deducted from your pay cheque.

Pay and Other Benefits

This is a full time role. Your weekly working hours will vary according to the demand for ski lessons in the resort. During peak times, such as Christmas, you may be working 6-7 days a week, while in quieter periods you may only be working 2-3. You can expect an average of 4 -5 days or 32 hours a week across the season.
Your wage will be a minimum of $12 per hour, and you will be paid fortnightly. Wages may be higher for those with childcare qualifications or language skills.
